![]() ![]() How could Disk Defrag defrag and optimize drives? Disk Defrag detects all the fragments in seconds and rearranges files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations, intelligently reorganizes most fragmentation for the purpose of speeding up access speed, quickening applications launch, increasing search speed, shortening system startup times and enhancing overall system performance. You can get an intuitive view of drive fragmentation through the drive map if you choose analyze selected and also get a new view of the defragged disk analysis result after a successful defrag. Disk Defrag can analyze all fragments on drives and show how fragmented the drives are before you defrag. There's nothing wrong with the built-in Windows disk defragmentation tool, at least nothing that Disk SpeedUp won't fix, first by dramatically speeding up the defragmentation process and second by optimizing the disk by moving large files to the end of the drive and other means.ĭisk Defrag is a totally free and extremely fast defragmentation tool developed by Glarysoft to analyze, defrag and optimize disks or a single file/folder for peak computer performance. When scheduling an automatic session, we could select defrag, optimize, or both. Under Settings, we could change the language, integrate the program with Windows startup and context menus, set defragmentation and optimization parameters, and add files to the Exclude List. We could check for updates, but there's no Help file, though the developer's Web site offered some information. The color-coded defrag map gave us a good visual indication of the state of our disks. We can't swear to their effectiveness other than to note that this tool is certainly fast. We could analyze, defrag, or optimize our selected disks or folders as well as pause or stop the operation.ĭisk SpeedUp claims "smart" defragmentation methods that speed up and improve the process. We chose both hard disks and all three partitions. To the left, three prominent buttons let us choose Defrag Now, Auto Defrag, and Schedule options. ![]() In the middle was a standard defrag map, while at the bottom of the interface, Disk SpeedUp displayed tabs with our three partitions, each with individual graphs and data. The Defrag Show tab showed our two disk drives and their capacity, free space, status, and percentage of fragmentation. Like many system utilities, Disk SpeedUp has a colorful interface with large, clearly labeled buttons and tabs labeled Defrag Show and Settings. ![]() It offers manual and automatic defrag options as well as automatic shutdown after defragmenting finishes. For a wired connection the speed will likely be either 1Gbps or a 100Mbps for a Wi-Fi connection, the speed varies a great deal.Glaryutilities' Disk SpeedUp is a free standalone utility that analyzes, defragments, and optimizes your disk drives or individual folders. If an adapter is currently connected, double clicking on it will open up the Status window of that adapter, which shows the duration of the connection, the current connection speed and signal strength (for a Wi-Fi adapter only). That said, you should disable whichever is slower (likely the Wi-Fi) for better connection speed.ģ. If you have two adapters that are both connected to the same network (or the internet), remember that the computer only uses one at a given time. Connectivity indicates if the current network connection allows for access to the internet or not.(You can always Google the device name to find out detailed specs.) For a Wi-Fi adapter, this will likely show the Wi-Fi standard, be it the latest 802.11ac or a legacy standard such as 802.11n. For wired connection, if you see the word "gigabit" or "GbE" in the device name, the adapter is gigabit-capable, meaning it can deliver up to 1,000Mbps. It often also indicates the type of adapter it is. Device Name shows more than just the name of the network adapter. When connected, it shows the name of the current network. Right-clicking on one will give you the option to disable or enable it. Status indicates if the item is disabled or enabled, connected to a network or not, etc.You can right-click on an item and rename it whatever you want. Name is just the name of a connection. ![]()
